As 2017 dawns, we thought that it would be a bit of fun to look back at the highlights of 2016 and to give thanks for a fabulous year filled with barrel loads of fun and lots of new discoveries, especially the latter half. 2016 may have gotten off to a slow start but certainly picked up speed towards the end.
We really want to say a HUGE thank you to all our wedding couples who trusted us with making their very special cakes.
28th December: Wedding – Louisa & Vaughn held at Gelukkie, Paternoster.
Cake – 2 tier chocolate semi-naked, filled with a dark chocolate ganache & decorated with fresh seasonal fruit. I thoroughly enjoy doing these semi-naked style cakes, they fit in really well with the casual elegance that is Gelukkie.
3rd December: Wedding – Daryn & Courtney held at Gelukkie, Paternoster.
Cake – 3 tier, top 2 tiers chocolate cake filled with milk chocolate ganache & pecan nut praline. Fondant covered & decorated with lace applique detailing & pressed flowers on the dummy bottom tier. This was a lot of fun to do, got to play with applique work and luster dusts.
26th November: Wedding – Hailey & Jeremy held at Gelukkie, Paternoster.
Cake – 2 tier carrot cake with traditional cream cheese filling done in a semi-naked style. I was quite nervous about delivering & setting up this one, as each tier was one & half times taller than normal & the weather was particularly hot.
29th October: Wedding – Elmien & Hugo held at Gelukkie, Paternoster.
Cake – a small cutting chocolate cake filled with peanut butter cream cheese & done in a semi-naked style. Accompanying the cake were salted caramel blondies & fudgy brownies. So very tasty!
24th September: Wedding – Quinten & Jaques held at Sea Trader, St. Helena Bay.
Cake – single tier cutting cake, white fondant with ribbons in two different tones of grey. The flavour of cake was coffee filled with dark chocolate ganache. Complimenting the cake were matching cupcakes with yellow rose-swirl buttercream.
10th September: Wedding – Natasha & Christo held at Sea Trader, St. Helena Bay.
Cake – a single tier chocolate sponge filled with peppermint crisp fudgy frosting; covered in ivory fondant & decorated with filigree royal icing piping.
13th August: Wedding – Ronel held at Boesmanland Plaaskombuis, Langebaan.
Macarons – pink macarons filled with strawberry infused buttercream & purple macarons filled with lime infused buttercream. Ronel was very kind to give us a review – this is what she had to say:
I just want to say thank you for the amazing macaroons’ you made for the wedding, everyone was raving about them. I will be spreading the word for sure, and we have a birthday coming up so I might ask you to make me another batch. I’ve attached a photo for you but I am still waiting for the photographer’s photos to arrive, the only problem is the people who unpacked the macaroons didn’t listen to how they were suppose to pack them, but never the less it tasted heavenly. Awesome job. “
