Blue Bay Lodge Beach Wedding, Heather & Nathan – 16 February 2019
A year ago Heather and Nathan celebrated their love story with a West Coast beach wedding held at Blue Bay Lodge in Saldanha.
HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!
Heather and Nathan both follow a gluten free diet. When they came for a cake tasting back in September 2018, they requested to try the Apple Spice cake as well as a gluten free carrot cake. I must admit that none of us really enjoyed the carrot cake. It was dry and very stodgy. Not wishing to disappoint them I promised to search out a much nicer gluten free cake. With this in mind I made for them a gluten free vanilla chiffon cake. This came out much better than I expected. It was light, airy and quite pleasant to eat, especially once filled with my homemade salted caramel.
The colour theme for the wedding was shades of blue, ranging from a light cornflour blue to a dark royal blue. This colour scheme was expressed as an ombre effect in the macarons. Macarons are a fabulous option as a gluten free dessert. They were filled with buttercream and a salted caramel centre tying them back into the wedding cake.
For their guests they chose to serve pre-portioned vanilla sheet cake topped with smooth buttercream and drizzled with salted caramel. There were also extra macarons to enjoy.
Many thanks to Elmarie Leonard from West Coast Event Shed for supplying the flowers. I chose to put a “flower spacer” in the macaron tower display which gave a slight pause in the overall blue theme. The top of the cake was decorated quite simply with white roses and a few macarons nestled amongst the petals.
On Friday, I sent through a WhatsApp message wishing them both much love and best wishes for a wonderful First Wedding Anniversary and here’s what Heather had to say:
Thank you, Gay! We were just speaking about what a joy you were to work with and the yummy cake! We wished we had ordered macarons from you for today! We’ve still not had any better than yours!!!!
Ah bless, I must admit that I get quite teary-eyed when I received comments like this.
As each client’s wedding day comes to a close, I often feel a momentary sense of sadness, but it’s soon replaced with a feeling of profound joy knowing that these young people are embarking on a truly special life together.
Wishing Heather and Nathan much love and joy for a fantastic future together xxx
