Fondant Wedding Cakes

Welcome to my miniseries on the types of wedding cakes that A Cake Story offers.

I will be delving into the pros and cons surrounding each type of cake so that you can make an informed decision when it comes to choosing the right cake for your Special Day.

Fondant is a sweet sugar paste that is used to drape over the cake providing a smooth finish.

Celebrating the positives.

All my fondant covered cakes have a sub-structure of white chocolate ganache onto which the fondant is adhered. This allows for perfectly smooth sides. The ganache adding an extra layer of yumminess.

Fondant provides a fabulous base and medium for decorating. Stenciling | ruffles | wooden planks | shimmer – you name it! It’s incredibly photogenic. Personally I love working with fondant cakes. It allows the artist in me to run wild.

The fondant covering helps to protect your cake from the elements and to seal in moisture.

It makes transporting and stacking the tiers a pleasure – it’s very stable.

This type of cake is better suited to our temperatures, as it won’t melt on a warm summer’s day.

These are the negatives – sorry!

Some folks don’t like the taste of fondant, they find it too sweet. To be honest, it is quite a thin layer and because of the ganache underneath – it can always be removed.

Although fondant can stand up to our warm temperatures, it can become sticky if the weather is very humid.

These cakes can also be on the expensive side if you opt for the all-cake version, as each tier has a sub-structure of chocolate ganache. The fondant itself is not expensive but the couverture chocolate is. However, you can get around this by opting for our cutting cake and sheet-cake option. To wrap up.

If you want a luxury wedding cake or one that makes a statement or even one that is elegant simplicity, then fondant is the way to go as it ticks all the design requirements
