Love Story – Kyle & Lezelle

Sea Trader, St. Helena Bay – Kyle & Lezelle – 18 March 2017 – their Love Story

Last year on their third anniversary, I got in touch with Kyle and Lezelle, who celebrated their nuptials at the beautiful seaside venue, Sea Trader. I wanted to ask them if they would be willing to share their love story with us and what their experience was of getting married on the West Coast.  I am happy to say that Lezelle readily agreed to answer my questions…

Where did you meet? Was it love at first sight? Tell us about the proposal…

We were set up on a blind date by mutual friends here in Abu Dhabi, I won’t say it was love at first sight but we both definitely knew this is a start of something. When he came over to my house to meet my parents, my Dad asked him who does he support in rugby, and when Kyle said “Stormers” my Dad said, “that’s it he is the one, I just know it”. After about two years of being together we went to Paris, France for a holiday and he asked me to marry him by the Eiffel tower as the tower lit up with lights that rainy cold night. I cried so much I just couldn’t believe this is my life, it was like a scene out of a movie, but bless Kyle he was so nervous but was truly a dream come true.

Why did you choose the West Coast & Sea Trader as your venue?

Since we live in Abu Dhabi, we both miss home a lot and try to come to Cape Town when we can, and therefore choosing to get married along the coast with the sea and waves in the background was just something majestic and felt “homey”. When we went to go look at the venue we were just taken back by the natural beauty and the amazing spot Sea Trader is situated at.

What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme?

We, well mostly I, wanted it to be like a fairy tale with fairy lights and soft colors but also not too much décor to hide the gorgeous natural views Sea Trader had/has to offer.

Were there any funny moments? What made you laugh / cry?

Moments we cried was of course when my Dad walked me to Kyle and handing me over was just so surreal, I felt like I was going to pass out. But as soon as I took Kyle’s hands he looked at me and said “just relax it’s okay”. Funny moments, yes definitely. As we were standing by the altar a few ants thought it would be nice to walk up my leg, Kyle and I just tried to get them off without anyone seeing what’s going on. Kyle also stepped on my toes one too many times that night as we didn’t really have a wedding dance. My poor feet were full off blisters the next morning as we made sure we danced every minute and had a blast of a time.

Would you do anything differently?

I would definitely not have stressed so much about the small things and enjoyed every moment instead of worrying about this and that one and what this one thinks and wants. You know how it is at weddings everyone has something to say and share and it can get to a bride. And I would’ve eaten the food, I was dancing so much I didn’t even eat and all the food options we chose was our favorite ones so I missed out on some comfort food.

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding?

Lovely brides just breathe and take it one step at a time. Don’t worry about the small things, people who are invited don’t know what it is supposed to look like. Enjoy being the new bride and take in every moment because that night just goes too quickly. Leave the family drama at home, it is about you and your groom.
